I can pick up a complete chevy 3.4 for $25 bucks. I was wondering if it would be worth throwing in a luv. The luv would be used both as a daily driver and an off road toy. I don't have a luv yet, but I am going to look at one today :D If I get it I plan on swaping the axles to toyota and having leafs on all four corners with 32's or 33's.

GOT LUV?

I don't see why you wouldn't throw it in a LUV!! The price is right and its an improvement over the 1.8L! I think its small enough you should be able to squeeze it into a 4x4 chassis. You might have to round up a tranny and T-case to fit though, that might be the hard part. As for power, theres guys here that run that size of tire and have fairly hoped up 1.8L's so...

i'm guessing the 3.4 is out of a camero? sounds like a good engine to put in. might check with edelbrock and see if they make a carburated intake manifold so you won't have to deal with fuel injection.

i'm *almost* sure a boat anchor 2.8 manifold will fit the 3.4, they're both 60* v6 engines based on the same block

i hear the trannies are different than an SBC though. might want to get a 2wd 5 speed tranny out of something originally having a 3.4, and mating it to a divorced toyota case or something similar

Edelbrock makes an intake to use a 390cfm Holley 4 barrel carb and Heddman makes a good set of headers. any thing that would fit the 2.8 will fit the 3.4, trannys and so on. You can get a HT 3.4 crate engine from GM that puts out around 165hp and 195 ftlb. It is a stronger engine than the 2.8 with stronger internal parts and a one piece rear main. If you want more performance add ons you can goto http://www.S-Series.Org and they have a whole section for performance parts for the 60 degree v6. :D :)

Thanks for all the input guys. I would want to use an auto tranny. Any suggestions? I went to look at the luv today but it was gone. Damn it! I will find a four wheel luv.

If you want to put a 3.4L in, all you have to do is pick up a tranny that mated to the gm 2.8L engines because they are basically the engine. These trannies were in 4x4 and 2wd versions so take your pick from s-10, blazers, troopers, amigos, rodeos, and the list goes on. If I could get one for $25 it would be a gimme for my Trooper. In the Luv, well, DAMN...

i'm pretty sure that the 4x4 s10s with the 2.8 had the front drive shaft come out on the driver side. the luv is on the passenger side, so you'd have to swap in another axle. i've heard that the early v6 troopers had the same bellhousing as the gm 2.8, and the trannies would swap. maybe the trooper has the front drive shaft on the right side.

I'm not sure on the shaft orientation for the s-10, but I know the Isuzus are all pass. side drop. Good point that I didn't think of in my haste...
