Either way you will have to do the mods so step up to the 8. Do it once, cause it isnt cheap. At least it hasnt been for me. Bryan

Well to join the 100+ club I will answer the question also. I put a v-6 (1992) in becuase I was making about 1/3 of what I am making now (and had to get loans to do stuff to the truck) and didn't want to cut-up my core support for the v-8. I found a motor for $75 out of Pontiac Sunbird. Big mistake!!! It blew up first time out! So the truck sat in the garge for 9 months until I got the ambition up to put in a rebuild. Thanks larp for letting me inspire you! I am honored! 8) I don't want to discourge you (I think we have been through this before) but I really regret not having put in the V-8 as now that will be the next step!

I will throw in on this too about why I put the V6 in the truck back in 1993.
one of my friends broke his transmission out of his monZa/ buick skyhawk, because of the V8 he put in it. He needed another one. I wanted something in my truck that would make it go faster.....so I traded my old motorcycle to him for the 3.8 buick engine and transmission that had a rod knocking and needed rebuilt. he took the motorcycle and traded it for the transmission he needed. whoohoo!
so since then I been sayin coulda had a V8.
I built that engine twice and had a buncha money in it.
keep the engine stock because if you start doing mods to it all I gotta say is Mo' money Mo' money!
buck V6 is as reliable as an old person waking up at 5:30 every morning.

Go find a 3.8 even fire distributor. They should be easy to find in a junkyard. It will fit like it belongs there. Just make sure its an even fire(78-80). My first V-6 had an odd fire, when it burnt up i installed a 3.8 even fire motor and i had to go back and swap out the distributors. Then when it threw a rod(35 days after i got the motor)i found a guy that had a 4.1 long block he was willing to sell. The distributor worked in that motor too. That motor fell victim to a hard freeze and it split the block. The next 4.1 was out of a 84 electra/sabre(computer controlled)So that same distributor has been in 3 even fire motors. All 252/4bbl carbs were computer controlled so dont try to use a stock carb. You'll either have to get a Q-jet thats too big, jet it down or drive with fat jetting(which is what im doing for now) Or go with a small holley.

here's ya another car to look for.
buick skyhawks and chevy monzas had HEI vaccum advance distributors in the 3.8's that occupied the engine compartment.
