Post subject: one hella strong axle!
PostPosted: Sat Jan 03, 2004 2:10 am
i dont know if you guys have heard about this, but if yu guys are making a whole lotta horsepower, and a 1/2 ton rear end wont due, then i found a answer. i am not sure how to adapt it to fit a luv, but i am sure someone could figure it out. you take a toyota rearend, and a dana 60. you drill out the little plug welds that hold inthe axle tubes on the 60, and remove them. youuse the toyota tubes, and yushve the splines downe a little, and the axles will fit right in, and the toyotas axles are much beefier then a dana 60. i dont know if there is any luv that needs this much, but if there is, than this is super strong. i just was told this, and i had to tell sombody, so why not all of you?

call me crazy, but there's no toyota axle i know of that is stronger than a d60. toyota axles are 1/2 ton, dana 60s are 3/4 ton or 1 ton. the main problem with most luv axles and horsepower is that they blow up the ring gear. that doesn't happen too often, a dana 60 has a big ring gear

i knowthat toyota axles are not all that strong compared to a dana 60, but that is because of their weak third member. you use the dana 60 third member, with the axle housings and inner axle shafts from a toyota.

Try using a dana 44 out of a mid 70's style jeep cheroke. the 3rd member is off set. shorten the long side to match the short side get another short side axle. the length will be 47 inches. I did it. works just fine
