If you can find one, a trooper front axle or a toyota will work with a little fab work. Would be stronger than the samurai.

You would be best to go with the TOYOTA axle.

People doing Trooper and Rodeo Solid Axles Swaps (SAS) always seem to go for Jeep Wagoneer axles a lot. I think part of that is finding an axle with the diff off center to the right like the stock diff. The other part of it is that its a nice simple Dana axle with a fair amount of aftermarket support, and they aren't that uncommon in salvage yards. If you are going for a small block, it would pay to plan out what motor, trans, and tcase will be going together and pick the axles accordingly. It would suck to find your diff on the right, and the front output of the tcase on the left. Also don't forget to get gears in the front that match what you have (or put) in the back.

toyota axles have a huge aftermarket. not too hard to find either. also, they have the same differential that they do in the rear, so they can be swapped back and forth

samurai axles are too narrow(iirc) and much weaker than a toyota axle.

i'd imagine that dana swaps are popular on troopers and rodeos because i think the diff is on the driver side. i could be wrong, though. some jeeps(80s grand wagoneers and cherokees) had a driver's side drop, and these are everywhere and cheap

id you get a toyota axle, i'd suggest ditching the stock toyota gear and using a crossover steering setup. toyota used a push-pull steering setup on their trucks a bit like solid axle chevys, which is an inferior way to doing it compared to crossover.
