So I have a '79 4x4 with a g180 throwing a rod. g180 has an offy with a 32/36 in it. Have found a trooper II donor with a 4ze1 in it.

Questions:
1. Can I bolt the offy to the 4ze1? My sense is yes (though not an exact fit) from a couple forum posts here, gemini, and planetisuzoo, but haven't found that exact comment or build anywhere?
2. Would it be better to take the whole 4ze1 and if so, ecm from the trooper II or need a megasquirt and dyno?
3. I have seen both posts that say I need the trans/clutch from the trooper and some that say it will bolt right up and be fine. Anyone with a true read on this?

Thanks in advance!

The only part of this that I can speak about is the transmission. The 4ZE1 comes with a much stronger transmission than the MSG transmission in your LUV. It is a MUA-5T and is used with engines as large as their 3.1L V6.

I've been told that this transmission won't fit in a 2nd gen LUV without enlarging the transmission tunnel, or doing a body lift. I assume the same would be true with a 1st gen LUV.

Also, it uses a hydraulically operated clutch, so if your truck has a cable operated clutch, you'd need to plan for that.
