So i know s-trucks work, but what else would fit and perhaps take more power without major modifications? I'm at the stage of machining the sbc engine block and plan on running between 340-360 hp. I don't plan on running slicks or doing any major drag racing (though it may be fun to see how fast i can go  ) .

There's a blazer rear end for $200 that i may look at tomorrow.

Thanks in advance!
Happy Holleydays (they should use that!)

Dana 44 from a leaf-sprung Isuzu Rodeo might work with minimal modification. They came with 4.10, 4.30 or 4.78 gears, drum or disc brakes, LSD as an option, same 6-lug pattern as a LUV.
Downside they are 4" wider than a LUV axle, you might need custom backspaced wheels to get the tires to tuck and still clear the frame.

What about a 1985 C-10 rear end for the sbc 350 swap???
Guy is parting out his truck... Would. It fit without major customization?
Could get it quite cheap

Full size GM pickup rear axles are at least 61" wide, more common is 65" wide. Plus the spring perches & shock mounts would need relocated and the p-brake connections adapted.

I wonder what the stock width is? Maybe a Dana 44 out of an old CJ-5 or CJ-7 (both ran the 304 V-8 in Low 4, should withstand a 350 in street gearing).

Hell, maybe look at the Dana 44 out of an XJ Cherokee.

Stock LUV axle is 54" WMS to WMS.
Be careful of the old Jeep rear axles, some of them had the rear differential offset to the passenger side to match the t-case output & most had 5 lugs.

I probably should have been more clear when I said, "old Jeep CJ-5". The first year of the CJ-5 was when it was a Willys (before Kaiser, long before AMC, and the idea of Chrysler owning the brand was ludicrous, let alone Fiat), and the first year they put the V-8 in it was (I think) 1974.

So, I probably should have said to get an axle out of any CJ-5 newer than 1974 or a CJ-7...

And another thing of note is to make sure it's not a 3 piece axle. Those suck.

And yes, it will have either 5 on 5.5" or 5 on 4.5" bolt patterns (depending on the year), so you won't match the front wheels unless you get your front redrilled (a service someone on here offers).

'91 Trooper is 58" wide, 6-lug, leaf sprung, has disc brakes, 4.56 gears. '94 Trooper essentially the same but is coil sprung, may have 4.30 gears (don't remember what year Isuzu changed gear ratios).

54"-58"=4" running 2 extra inches of off set may make this work. Also the 85 C 10 is probably 28 spline , wouldn't be my first choice . The later 8.6 truck axle will be the correct 6 lug and 30 spline . the housing could be narrowed and a custom set of axles could be ordered for say , Moser with C clip eliminator kit and 30 spline would be plenty strong. Also aftermarket posi units are very reasonable . The 8.8 Ford explorer is a popular swap , but will be wide like the trooper/rodeo deal and be the wrong pattern . Back in the day guys would do a Dana 44 from a mail jeep with for truck 5x 5.5 wheels .

Just removed a 91 trooper rear end! I'll let you know how it all fits when I get there!

Make sure you also get the u-bolts, nuts & matching spring plates (the Trooper axle tube is larger diameter than the LUV) & the p-brake cable from the adjuster back to each wheel intact if possible.
Also be aware the Trooper axle will be 4.56 ratio & about the only other option is 4.10s from certain pickups.

Managed to grab all of that! The p-brake cable was in good condition and even grabbed the driveshaft (even though it was just in case i needed the knuckle or something like that). got 3 decent wheels and managed to find a 70-80 camaro driveshaft (trying to follow the beer budget swap).

Why is the 4.56 a bad thing? What ratio is an S-10 rear end? I thought the trooper would be stronger and that's why i went for it?

S10s are generally 3.73. Much better for cruising. 4.56 will scream at highway speeds, and an overdrive transmission only helps so much.

Ok, that makes sense. I will see how it goes! Thanks again for all the hints and tips!
All this is new info for me as I've never done anything this big.
