Finally getting around to doing some work on my LUV. Been a long time of it just sitting because of a few problems mixed with laziness.

Main issue was with the starter not engaging the flywheel it was just grinding against the face of the teeth and not turning the engine, got worse as the teeth ground off the starter. Just removed it and confirmed it was starter and not flywheel related. Was really worried it was going to be the flywheel and the engine would be coming out.

Next issue is the distributor. I am on my second eBay HEI unit, however this one is overly bulky (pic didn't match what was sent) so I had to cut part of the coil cover off of it to make it fit and had to remove the hood latch so it'd fit and work for a while.. and the adjustable vac advance canister was internally shot and gave all the timing at idle and can't adjust. So that is going in the trash and I'm ordering one without an internal coil and a much smaller cap. I have a MSD blaster 2 coil on the shelf I never used so that should work nicely.

Need to pull my intake while the dizzy is out and put a thicker bead of rtv down so it stops seeping oil all over my trans.

Few more small items but those are the main issues. Need to heat shield a few things better, solder a couple things that only have crimp connectors etc..

Glad to be getting it off the back burner and going again to say the least.

Will add some pics later on once I get something more going on

While I have it partly torn down I am going to sell the Edelbrock 500 and get a Holley 450cfm with vac secondaries.
Have an offer for $150 on it and found an old Ford oe Holley 4548 locally for $55 in pretty good shape will leave plenty to rebuild the carb and buy the other small maintenance parts.
