Alright I'm a newbie to this site I recently talked to my Father in law and he said to drop a V-8 in my newe baby. I am looking for suggestions...mind you I'm in the military so I dont have alot of money to drop on this and it will be done by myself. I was looking to do a 327 but would really love to do a 383 stroker but it might be a liitle too much trouble for me. Anyway I'm ready for the flood of suggestions!!!! lol Here's what I have it's a 75 Luv thets been slammed I think as low as it can go with stock stuff on it. Has original engine as far as I can tell. I Have a donor engine(original) but want to get rid of it. Any help and suggestion would be greatly appreciated. you can ICQ me or email me and let me know. Thanks in advance.

Look in the Information section. There is good info on the V8 swap and other tech data.

Ok I dont care what any of the kids driving hondas today have to say... Bigger is always better when it comes to making power. a 383 is an excellent choice but it goes on.... 406, 421, 434 etc. 3.75" stroke or better is the magic number. Also try to use the longest rod possible 6" rod is a good starting point.

I run a "mild" 406 with a 6" rod in my LUV. Off the bottle, it goes mid 11's spinning the 10" goodyear slicks to half track...oh and thats 8.9:1 compression on pump gas, hydraulic cam and mild ported 993 heads.

My new motor coming out this summer will be a 421" 10.5:1, .570" roller, Dart Heads with a straight 250 shot. This combo in my friends Datsun pickup put him in the 9's. but all I want is a 10 sec timeslip out of it because this will be my daily driver.

my friends and I are in a competition here in SD. we are trying to go the fastest on the cheapest and mildest parts. We also had a contest in the past to see who could go the fastest on all factory parts. I got my LUV to go a mid 11 on a bone stock smogger 77 350 with no port work, L82 cam shaft, and a 200 shot. My goal on the new motor is to make 530hp on pump gas and under .600" lift cam.

hey guy's thought i would give my opinion on this v-8 engine swap thing. i e-mailed john@autofab.com for price & info. on his kit and i seriously think he is over priced.$300.00 is way to much when i can get a hooker kit for $125.00. i had done an engine swap back in the 80's and the problems you're having with space is something i didn't have to deal with. as i recall with the hooker kit everything fit with no problems. i used stock exhaust manifolds [ y-type] short shaft water pump and alternater
only, no extra's. plain and simple no problems. no firewall adjustments no cutting the crossmember for the harmonic balancer to fit. just my two cents worth. by the way luv this site, you guys crack me up .

I agree. Autofab is overpriced. I go there for certain things that i cannot find anywhere else or that I need in a hurry only because they are here in SD. I HIGHLY reccommend the Hooker kit. It has worked for me several times. Its tried and true

Do you have to call hooker headers to get prices or are they on the web?
