What are you street and drag racers using for rear ends , I currently am using a s-10 axle with no posi and need a good axle that can take some power I have a fresh 406ci. does someone sell a bolt in 9in ford or 12 bolt? or is my best plan the go with new axles and a s-10 posi unit. and beef up housings? your opinions please.

quick is about the best deal you will find for new stuff. I used a stock rearend until the stock u-joints started exploding around 7.20's then upgrade to a 9''. As light as these truck are you can use a big 10'' and be fine. Running a 7.5 s-10 in both of ours now so we will find out how they do.

I have a 1979 chevy luv with a 327 v8 in it, it had the stock 4.56 gears which are to low for it and I can only do about 50 without it being winded up to much, I would like to know what s10 rear end will fit under it easily without mods or if any, small mods..... and I would also like to keep the 6 lug because I don't want to change my wheels.... thanks

You're not going to find a 6 lug S10.

There are 3.73 luvs. If you can find one you can swap the carrier, or just swap the rear end. I forget what years exactly but I think 78-82 automatics had them. You can do a search or maybe someone else can chime in.

I know the 8.8 is popular , but If I was on a budget and wanted a solid rear axle . I would go full size 99-2005 Chevy truck with $249 ebay posi and a set of c clip eleminators and have it narrowed to fit with a set oc 30 spline custom axles or just shorten and respline a set of stocks .

The ideal axle is the B,O, P axles found under late 60's. Posi available, gears etc. They do not have that stupid C Clip, they used a taper roller bearing like the fords, easy to narrow and some of the axles just need to be re-splined to fit. Disc brake conversion is simple and they are available. All parts to maintain are stock and readily available. To identify one just look be hind the backing plate. No nuts as they used a T bolt with the nut s holding the bearing retainer plate on. Just like the fords.

Or as a alternative a late model ford explorer rear end. It has disc brakes already and one axle is shorter that other so you can find another short tube and axle and possibly not have to narrow the rear end.

Won't work with 8 inch wheels on the small width stepside. ..

Well that's where I was going with it . If you had to narrow an axle a full size 10 bolt would hold the power and have the correct 6 lug pattern .
