Recently bought an 80 4x4 4 speed LUV, got into the engine and seems it is not holding compression :? :? took the carb off and sprayed fluid into the intake, the closest I got to starting was a "whhop" like pop.. more like a backfire. Check distributor etc but nothing worked.

That being said, I am considering doing a full drivetrain swap to a jeep inline 4.0 5 speed. Thoughts? I am sure I will have to cut the firewall, but I am pretty good with fab work.

What about the Isuzu pup engines? would the 2.6 bolt to my current drivetrain without modification? Or is the drop on the wrong side?

Isuzu 2.3 or 2.6 will "bolt in" with their mounts. And use your trans but you would be better off with the 5 speed and tcase they come with.
2.6 is efi 2.3 is carbed. You can use 2.3 intake to carburate a 2.6. Tons of information here on the site as it has been done several times

Thank you love4theluv. I have been trying to read up on the 2.6 swap as much as I can find here on the forums. Just hard to gather it all in one spot.

I was reading a thread about using the 2.3 manifold to carb the 2.6. The 2.6/2.3 swap look to be the usual route.. if I can get a working one from the local pullapart maybe I can do it pretty cheap.

Thanks! I will continue to read up on what I can find. Looked through one of your threads yesterday, pretty informative.
