Hey love4theluv,
The NV3500 is an excellent trans, they swap them into all kinds of 4x4 kits at advance adapters and others. The have a swap kit for the NV3500 in early (68-76) Broncos too. I can't recall if yours is a 4x4 if so, that makes a F+R gear swap tough and expensive. If yours is a 2X, I bought my 01 S10 disc brake 3.42 rear from a local junk yard for $125.00 its a non posi and had a couple pits on the pinion gears but that is a cheap fix. It needed a new pinion seal, and rear cover seal job, but it works fine. It'll do for now. As you know since your drivetrain is similar to a S10/Blazer, with the light weight of your Luv and 30" tires you'd be fine with the 3.42's

I finally got to test the truck for a good 25 miles today. Even on the freeway, wow I am brave, cruises pretty good at 70+ I was surprised. I had to pass some traffic in the slow lane, probably got up to 75+- smooth too. But the 3.42 gears help with the .70 o/d. brakes are sketchy got to pump them up to work effectively.. I need to bleed the rears again better, I need a firm pedal to be comfortable. So far so good...but too much power and acceleration potential for unsafe brakes...

Picked up a marine fuel gauge today, gonna put that in this week.

Truck is super loud though inside, trans tunnel is the next fix for sure.

Hey Luvrv8,
Since I just finished R&R ing the engine and transmission again due to the bad transmission/converter issue, I hope that I don't need to do that for a long time...a lot of work for an old guy by myself. So full gauges are a must for me, I bought the inexpensive summit 3 gauge set and they work and look great. I have done a lot of swaps in my years and getting the cooling system working well is always an issue. For me water temp and oil pressure gauges are a must, I wont even drive a new project/build without them.

The guy I bought the Hooker headers and exhaust from is doing a twin turbo system on his sbc Luv pick up and has the same TT set up in an S10 blazer running 10's...saw some videos, he's looking to go faster too.

Didn't know Toyota even had a pushrod V8 motor, I would think you could buy a 427 CI sbc motor from Dart for less tho...that TRD race stuff is pricey....383's are cheap too.

More testing and driving.
great running and driving little truck, its kinda loud...
now with safer brakes, new rear tires, fixed the diff cover leak.

Got rid of the bald 245/50/16 rear tires, new Ohtsu 225/55/16's for only $55.00 at discount tire.
ride great look good too, now they all match.
Used the rear Camaro inset wheels on the front, fronts on the back, works great.

Really fun to drive, shifts great now, lots of power cruises effortlessly...at 70-75.

Gas gauge, trans tunnel, exhaust, primer/paint to go...

Hood fits pretty good...
bought a used hood prop rod on ebay...nice popped right in place.

as I mentioned before I bypassed the stock fuel gauge with a marine generic sender and a new sierra gauge.
I hooked up the gauge it works great, easy solution.

Gonna do the exhaust next week.
Trans tunnel being fabbed locally.

sand and prime over the holidays thru xmas.

Anyway to improve the handling on these trucks?
I am big on cornering, I do understand there is lots of weight up front.

On my old Chevy hot rods, I've done lots of suspension mods to make them handle well, plus added modern low profile BFG g/force tires. Parts are easy to find for old classic Chevys. I followed the pro-touring trends as I could afford them.

They both make the luv drive like a ....well..70's mini truck...

Maybe a rack and pinion would solve that problem?

Steering is slow and sluggish, but the box is not work out.

any suggestions?
