I've done some reading and I haven't found what I'm looking for. So don't shoot me if it's been asked alot. Which I'm sure it has. The truck I'm looking at runs good just needs the webber rebuilt. If I get it and some day want to upgrade could I do the 4 3 swap and keep it a 4 speed? And links or tips

No easily bolt in options for larger engines with the stock front end. A toyota SAS opens up the options somewhat. You can carb a 2.6 4 banger Isuzu that is supposed to bolt up. I don't do stock or 4x4 so that's all I got...

Can't do it with stock front end I tried in mine. The only tcase I could find with the front yoke on the passenger side was too big to fit between the frame rails without being clocked and it was gonna be too close or hitting the torsion bar.

Swapping to Toyota straight axles and/or doing away with the tbars would make it feasible but expensive

Like he said the isuzu 2.6 is a much displacement as can easily be had with the stock drivetrain and should work well for the power you need. And be better on gas than a 4.3

Thanks for the replies. The motor was supposed to be rebuilt but you know how that goes with no proof. Are the stock engines pretty reliable ?

Reliable absolutely
main weakness is the points ignition and the factory fuse box, engine itself is real sturdy if you take care of it..
Powerful absolutely not. You can gain some more power with the usual mods on the forum but it won't be crazy fast.
Lots of options if you have specific goals

That makes me feel better. If I land it I'd want 31s and drive it. I'm not really into offroading . Looking for a cool work truck tjat I can mess with. Most parts still made or can you improvise as needed?

Replace or clean with lemon juice either way works on the fuse box..

Which parts are you asking about? a lot of chassis/suspension components from first gen troopers and pickups are compatible. The 4 cyl engines and 5 speeds are also fairly straight swap with some modification required

Engine parts are still available @ rockauto and on eBay etc..
interior and body parts are a lot harder to come by
