Some people have said that engine/trans from a later Izusu Trooper is practically a bolt in swap. Try a search here on the message boards.

probably wouldn't be a whole lot of work to swap in a toyota 22R and 5 speed tranny. very easy to find and you can pick up the engine/trans combo out of a pickup or pre-86 celica often for less than 300 bucks if you shop around

If the car is pre-emissions dated (which most luvs are) then it doesn't have to have smog equipment. I think. Or maybe the motor has to be old enough. I don't remember. Something to that effect though.

Oregon is kinda funny depending on where you live you might not have to get it smogged otherwise the vehicle must be 21 years old or older. My first V8 Luv (1988) I had to register at my aunt's house because I was inside the zone. I think there are a couple of threads that have dealt with this subject before for California so you might try a search on it...

later..

i think in california the engine has to be as new or newer than what you're swapping it into
