I've read a lot in the forum about rear axle options. Tons of good info.

Can anyone help me identify this rear axle I got rears ago...
I know it's a GM 7.5", but not sure what it came out of.

The axle code is "KXN C320 1"
It also has "GM 1 K" & "D N"

Working on '75 Luv 350/TH350 using hooker motor & transmission mounts.

Have heard the stock rear axle is good enough for street use.
If I go with this option, how would I come up with a driveline?

A Google search found this if it helps:

http://www.thecamaro.com/Decoding/Chevy-Axle-Rear-End-Decoding/axledecoder.php

Axle was assembled at: the Detroit Gear & Axle assembly plant during the 1st shift.
Axle was assembled in August, on day 32.

Axle assembly code "KX" was used for the following vehicles:
Year Model Description Code
1968 Chevelle 3.07 Posi
196 Chevelle 3.07 Posi.

The stock axle will work up to 300hp normally. My 72 (V8) had a stock Luv drive shaft when I got it but I switched to a Camaro shaft when I installed my Ford 9 inch.

Thanks LUVTRKR

I was at that site but was inputting the entire axle code in the search box... Did not work.
A posi track out of a '68 or '69 Chevelle, that would make for a good rear axle in the Luv.

Back to the stock rear axle and driveline. I thought the stock Luv drive shaft spline wouldn't
fit the tail of the TH350, was yours modified?

Absolutely has to be modified to use a T350 yoke. Any driveline shop can take care of it. I also had the Camaro shaft shortened when I did the 9 inch.

Thanks again for the info...

I think the Chevelle axle will bolt right in so swapping out the stock axle sounds like the best option.

Measured rear axle this morning...

39" center of leaf spring to center of leaf spring
55" outside of drum to outside of drum

Thought this rear axle was out of S10 until researching axle code.

The stock rear in a 75 was 4.56:1. It'll work, but with a TH350, don't expect to cruise on the freeway happily.

The chevelle 12 bolt I have is a touch over 60 inches outside the drum measurement....

The Luv won't be cruising the freeway much if any, just around the valley, 55mph at the most. If the Chevelle 10 bolt doesn't fit then a stock driveline modification & keeping the stock rear axle for the short term. Has anybody done their own stock driveline modification? Cut of the yokes off and weld the TH350 yoke on the stock driveline to desired length. Is this a practical thing to try myself without a driveline shop?

Not really. It doesn't cost much to have a shop do it. I had a t400 style yoke and my local driveline shop supplied the rest, 240 out the door for a new balanced shaft (my latest has a 9 inch ford in it.) Take the stock shaft to a shop and tell them the length you need with the end for the rear off the stock shaft and a t350 style yoke. The stock rears for me are hit and miss. I have had them hold for a while, or grenade first time. Street tires they live. Slicks, not so much...

I'll take the stock shaft and one from an '84 Firebird that is here to the shop and have one fabricated then. Thanks for info.

The Chevelle 10 bolt 7.5 leaf spring center is 1" to wide @ 39"
Luv leaf spring center is 38"
