 Post subject: Engine swap kit/Headers

I am trying to figure out if the the Ace or Hooker headers will fit my truck as the V8 swap was done on my truck in the late 70's. The original owner of my truck owned a machine shop and fabricated the engine mounts. Can anyone with the ACE or Hooker engine swap kit with headers post some pictures showing engine position with some kind of reference to something that can be measured in a comparison?

I'm not worried about part numbers or how to do the conversion. Both companies claim their headers only fit their engine swap kits Since my truck doesn't use either of these brand name parts I would like to use one or the other companies headers because I am not into building headers from scratch. It also doesn't do me any good to buy a set of headers that won't fit when if someone could post a couple of decent pictures of how these parts fit in the truck so I can say oh shit look at that a glass eye in a ducks ass could tell there is no way in hell those factory made off the shelf parts will fit.

I have no experience with power by ace , but i fabbed my own motor and trans mounts and used both block huggers at first and Hookers later wiith the same set up .

I had the power by ace mounts and headers on my old one. I don't know where any pics are though. The power by ace mounts bolt to the stock mounting locations. Block hugger headers wouldn't work with those mounts.

If you post a pic of your mounts, someone might be able to tell you what would work.

I can't really see much but it looks like you have factory ram horn manifolds now that are center dump. I would think the block huggers should fit. Your firewall clearance is less than mine though.

Especially on the pressure side.

There are too many variables for me to even post my set up. My engine is set low and back as far as I could, I made my own mounts and was able to use hooker headers. Hookers have one pipe that wraps around the frame, clearance is tight around the torsion bars etc. depending on height it may not fit, it's the same way as front to back clearance.

My goal is long tube headers. I don't know if the pictures listed on summits website is an actual picture of the hooker luv specific headers or just some random long tube. I also looked at the headers on the ace website and they look like they might work. I'm not sure the difference between their old style and new style either. I guess worst case I get a header building kit and spend a ton of time making my own.

The glass filter was on it when I got it. Future plans include all new bigger line and better fuel pump. I have had nothing but bad luck so far with this truck and would like to get it where I could at least get a test drive in as I have never driven it yet.

These are the hooker headers for a luv. Bear in mind my engine is set back 3 inches.

Frige thanks for the pics. From what you have and what you might be able to figure out by looking at your truck do you think that if your engine was moved forward 3 inches or roughly forward so that the center two exhaust ports on the head were directly in line with the cross member for the front of the torsion bars that those headers would possibly fit?

I am sure they will fit. I have used the hooker luv truck headers on several different trucks and never used the hooker mounts. The main thing is that they clear the frame and the torsion bars if you use them.

I like that answer. Ditching the front torsion bars would be nice and maybe in the works way down the road. I have not researched it yet and not 100% sure on how to exactly go about doing it.

It appears you are actually down and forward in contrast to either the ACE or Hooker kit. Send an email to the tech at Powerbyace.com include some pictures of the custom mounts where they attach to the frame. Are they bolted in or welded.

The difference of the ACE old vs new headers is the #1 tube on the right side has been rerouted, so that the larger GM flywheel and starters can be used.
