Hey there all,
Has anyone ever done a 4zd1 conversion into their LUV?
I bought a Lynx manifold with a Dell 45 side draft for the G161 that I was going to rebuild, but have since neen offered a 4zd1 which I reckon would be a nice upgrade?
I've been told the Lynx should fit the 4z, but I haven't had a chance to test for fitment yet.

Any tips or advice welcomed :)

the 4z manifolds bolt up to g series heads, I think some of them had different shaped ports (some square some round) as far as I know it is almost a bolt in, the mounts are very similar I think putting the mounts from one go into the other or something similar I haven't done it personally, are you on ozgemini.com? lot more info on there about the 4z engines than we have here

Thanks for that, and yep,,, I'm on Ozgem under same user name :P
I almost bought a G200 but then got offered this 4z and have been told it should be a pretty straight forward swap?
Just checking to see if anyone had done one before,,,

I should be picking up the 4zd1 tomorrow (Saturday afternoon)

1.6 litre to 2.3 litre should be just a tad more noticeable,,, and even better if most of my carbie and manifold upgrades are interchangeable :P

i had some 4zc1-t manifolds bolted onto my g180 head and they bolted right up no problem, I needed to replace the upper row of studs on the intake with long bolts because of the thickness of the casting but beyond that they went right on like they belonged there
and yeah I think a 4zd1 will be plenty powerful for your needs with a nice manifold and dello, later on add a set of headers/extractors and you will be rolling really nicely.

After a bit of research the Lynx manifold will fit nicely with the possible need of minor port matching. The mechanical fuel pump apparently is bolted to the induction manifold, so that needs to be replaced with an electronic high volume item with a pressure regulator if I run the Lynx manifold, (which I will :P ) and the recess on the head where the OE fuel pump actuator feeds through and gets driven by the cam needs blanking off or welding up, a blanking plate seems to be less technical and just as effective,,, but otherwise the induction manifold & headers are an almost direct fit :D

I already have the headers from the G161 which I'm told will bolt right on as well,,,, plus the 5 speed manual gearbox that I have will bolt right up no issues. The 4zd1 I was going to get was sold though, so now I just need to track down another.

Well a bit of an update,,, it's been a while since I've been on here :P
I managed to locate a reasonable 4ZD1 engine from a local salvage yard, brought it home last week and gave it a quick degrease before sending off with the Lynx manifold and headers, plus the 5 speed gearbox to get a full rebuild by a reputable engine builder who is good mates with a good mate of mine.
It's getting quite a lot of tweaks from a standard 4ZD1, but not too silly,,, gonna be a tough little 4 banger that will remain user friendly on the road & not attract too much attention from the cars with pretty flashing lights on their roof :P

I've added photos and more details in my build thread
