Has anyone here switched from a ford 8" to 8.8"? I'm looking at eventually doing a swap and curious what might need to be done to the drive shaft. Also interested in knowing what is involved with narrowing process using the two short side axles.

Not from the ford 8, but I am going to the 8.8 shortly in my project LUV from a s10 rear. Shortening the tube is the biggest issue. I have a large pipe cutter and I plan on doing it using that myself. I got the flange for the 8.8 driveshaft with the rear when I pulled it, and an extra short stock axle, going to use a joint that will go from that to a gm style. (I have a good many gm shafts that can be shortened at the driveline shop, will get a joint from them). I put a gm shaft in my v8 Nissan D21 and the driveline shop had a flange that would bolt to the stock Nissan rear and used one of the hybrid joints, until I do this for the 8.8 I don't have a part number...

My sugestion is not a ford diff in this case. I have a dana 44 out of a isuzu rodeo in my v8 luv the only thing you have to do is move the spring pads1/2 inch to the center on eatch side. The brake lines hook up directly and it gives you disk brakes a posie and 4.10 or 4.30 gears most commin. I have over 50 passes on a strip with slicks and i drive it every day on the street for 4 years no problems.
Just my 2 cents

I have heard a lot of good about those rears only reason I hadn't considered one is the gear ratio

Hey, isn't that Rodeo rear end quite a bit wider, like 6 inches wider overall?
