alright so i have everything else ready to go and drive but i am being held up by my fuel pressure. aince my carb has no provision for a fuel return line my fuel pump overpressurises and i have a leak in my secondary float bowl. im replacing that gasket but i need a way to keep it down at 4psi or so
im trying to find a cheap way to do it because im gettin tired of spending money i dont have on this truck
my options seem to be
bypass style fuel pressure regulator
something like a hobbs pressure switch to shut off the pump once it reaches 2.5-4psi and bring it on whe it drops below.
or a fuel pump that is internally regulated to a low pressure
if any of you guys have suggestions or a part number for me to look into i would appreciate it cuz this is my last hurdle before i can drive

bypass style regulator would be the best option...

Run one of these with a fuel pressure gauge on one end and be done with it. You don't need a return with this set up.

Here is a gauge

i was reading that a non bypass reg on a pump that doesnt go off will burn out my pump over time since it will be pumping pretty much into a plug and build up back pressure. if it was designed for a return i would feel better with a return line
i found a holley bypass style reg at baxter auto parts. costs more but it wouldnt run the risk of burning up my pump and wasting even more time and money i dont have.
on the upside when i manually switch my pump on and off every few seconds the truck sounds great i would have taken a video but i needed my hand free to run the pump toggle

I have been running a fuel pump like this for many years, in fact all of the VW bugs that I had ran the same set up.

alright if it has been done successfully i will probably go that route, would just suck to have saved the $20 difference between that and a return style reg but burn out a $70 fuel pump and need a return after anyway
but if it is a non issue i can just do that. anyone know the pressure rating on a stock style fuel pump?

Wait for others to chime in to see what they have. I ran my stock fuel pump with this set up until a couple months ago when I replaced it with a holley pump I had on the shelf for several years. It still worked fine the day I removed it.

A stock LUV electric fuel pump? 4-7psi.
