Hi, new to the site and I need to know if a g180 out of a 1974 luv will work in a 1978 luv. Thanks for any info.

If the 74 is original style then no. Are the intake/exhaust manifolds on the same side?

Yes they are. The 1974 is completely stock with about 50,000 original miles on it. Thanks for any info. Curious why this won't work. Can you explain?

Starter is in the wrong side, engine mounts are differant and that is just the beginning.

When I say it won't work. I mean it is not just a direct bolt in and go. If you have minimal fab skills, you can make it work. But as posted above, you got some work to do...

Just a thought, if you're going to go through all the trouble of fabbing and cutting and welding to make this motor work, why not try it with a better setup? A toyota 22r or a 4.3 v6 or something more reliable and with more parts available? Wouldn't be much difference in the amount of work required to make it work.

The 74 motor is a completely different motor than the 76-up motors.

I may just do that now that I am aware of what it takes to install the older engine. Could be a very good idea. Thanks
