The 22r has been done before, isuzu makes a 2.3 that pretty much bolts right in, and a 2.6 that is efi, you can put the 2.3 intake manifold on a 2.6 and have a carburetted 2.6 that basically drops in they can be found in early isuzu troopers and pups, something like 82-86 and possibly 87-91.... im not sure i dropped a chevy 4.3 in mine

so the isuzu 2.6 efi just drops into the luv with out modifying anything? Sounds like that would be the best choice. Does a automatic transmission fit that engine?

Im not totally sure im sure one of the isuzu experts will chime in soon. But i believe it goes in with the mounts that come with it. And i believe there is an auto tranny you can pull with it.
The 2.6 is called the 4ze1 and the 2.3 is the 4zd1. Not sure which is more common but the 2.6 with a 2.3 intake is gonna be the most potent combo you will find that goes in easily. Mokadeth a member on the forum also sells aftermarkert offenhauser intakes for them you can put a weber 38/38 on and make more power

I see that you have a 4.3 chevy in yours. Is that motor good on gas? What I want in my truck is a gas saver with some hp. this truck is going to be my everyday driver I commute around 80 miles a day to work. I don't want a race truck, I want to make a reliable car.
