Anybody ever thought about putting a Mazda Miata 1.8 engine in a LUV? Good or bad idea?

Too much trouble & expense for too little gain.

I would have to agree. If you want mazda go with a 13b rotary na or turbo either would be good
Someones done a nissan sr20det, one guy is about done with a 13btt rotary swap,
For simplicity and cheap power go with a isuzu pup/trooper carbed 2.3 or efi 2.6. Much more "drop in" and more power than the lil 1.8
