ok guys im back on the site as Tire_Juice after being gone for a couple years so im posting some pics of my recent progress. About 5 years ago me and my dad redid this 79 luv 4x4 Mikado , bobbed the bed and frame, lifted it, gave it a good tune up and repainted it. Then I daily drove it for about 3 years encountering deer in the headlights and many major mechanical failures that led me to park it in the fence row until about 2 months ago I pulled it into my new shop and proceeded to tear it down to the frame and undergo a major facelift including a 4wd delete and upgraded 12 bolt chevy rearend, a 327sbc and matching 4 speed, along with lowering it back to stock height or pretty close, anyway heres some then and now pictures. I will keep updating through this thread until i am on the road.

sat my mock up 350 on the frame to set up the frone springs, having trouble with right(passenger) side seems like the torsion adjuster is way longer than the drivers side or its out of index with the other side wich I think is what the prob is . truck has been poked and proded at way too much before I got it years ago, going to try to re_index the torsion bars aka springs and hopefully get an even ride height. sat the mock motor on to get some ideas.

Welcome abck and you will probably like the truck as a 2 wd sbc than you did before.
I did the V-8 swap 36 years ago and never regretted it one day!

Thanks a lot Shellfish.. I don't get much encouragement around town, these trucks are extinct around here. Theres only 2 in our hole county, mine and an old lady stock blue one.
My wife doesn't offer much encouragement but she's com'n around slowly now that she sees how much time im putting into this project with a healthy family balance. And trust me its hard to find time to get out in the shop, between working at a shop 18 miles away everyday or being out in the service truck doing farm tires. Also have 2 boys one 8 and one is 1 and a half. did I mention my wife works nites. and yet still in two months I have managed to tear my old luv down to the frame after it sat out back for a bit over 3 years,,,, its gonna be worth it getting that sb under there with headers and all the dressings.. :D
