I have a 76 Luv. I am in the process of swapping the manual steering for power. I have read the post on power steering but I have some questions maybe you guys can help. A bit about my truck; I have a sbc 350 in the truck. I know I will need a power steering pump from a chevy plus the brackets to mount to the engine. I shouldn't have a problem getting those as there a couple of yards around here that still have old stuff. I also plan on having the lines adapted to go between the chevy ps and the Iszuz ps gearbox. The gearbox I got from the yard the other day is from an 89 Trooper with 2.3L. Yes I would have loved to gotten one from an 84-86 but these things are very hard to get hold of so I'm grateful for what I have. I haven't put the gearbox in the Luv yet as I know I will need to get my pitman arm machined to fit my new gearbox. It looks like my new gearbox will bolt in but I will wait to have the pitman arm machined til after I have the new gearbox installed in the Luv, just to make sure it sits in there comfortably. While pulling the Isuzuz gearbox I got the entire rod with the u-joint out as well. I had to remove a rubber boot at the top near the firewall, get in there and pull a clip and the rod slipped out, with a little persuasion. Now before I go tearing my luv's steering rod apart, the rod that connects the steering wheel to the manual gearbox, can anyone tell me how to adapt my new steering rod with the u-joint to the steering wheel? I hope I am explaining this in a way you can understand. If I slip the rod out from the boot at the firewall on the Luv will my rod from the trooper slip in there and connect? If not what do I do to make this rod work here?

The trooper u joint has to be welded to the stock steering shaft. Measure it out within 1/2 inch, cut the shaft and have it put on. It is pretty precise. I have done it on two LUV's. When your all done it will steer so well!
