since diesel 4x4 are hard to find, how hard is it to swap the tranny and axle into a 2wd? may or may not want to do a 5sp upgrade at that time. right now i just need a truck and winter is fast approaching, will need 4wd in a few mos.

Sounds like you're suggesting making the 4x2 into a 4x4 (?). The front end is really different for the 4x4. Is the wrecked truck's frame bad? If the frame can be repaired, it would be easier to do a body/bed swap onto the 4x4 frame.

i dunno how bad it is. i can see that its physically buckled above the right rear wheel. i have no idea how repairable or what the cost would be to try and straighten it. seems like a relatively light gauge frame

saying from expierence... the bed is toast... the frame and cab may be salvageable... if you can get the insurence to look past the bed hell if the frams bent less then an ince pull it back out and do a flat bed conversion....
