i have this 4.3 sitting in my garage on a stand stripped down to the block.. needs a full rebuild, machine work etc... have been planning to rebuild it with some hypereutectic pistons and eventually slap an eaton m112 on it...
but a guy who is a regular at my work came in last night and we talked about the luv and what i have been planning for it... and of course i got steered into a way different direction. he has a buddy with a Grand National that got smashed in the rear by a dodge ram so its pretty much scrap metal from the rear wheels back.. so there is now this 3.8L turbocharged beast of a v6 sitting there gathering dust... the guy only wants $1000 for the engine with all attached to it (turbo included) and only 35k original miles on it..
i feel like i would be dumb to pass this thing up
he is in no hurry to get it sold and is a believer that it would do well between the frame rails of my luv
im looking in the ballpark of 1000 to get my 4.3 rebuilt decently... plus $400+ for an m112 and $600+ for new fuel system so 2x the price for a blown 4.3 vs a 3.8 turbo that was made for boost
i am not sure how often you may stumble upon a low mileage GN turbo motor for $1000... but im feeling like this may be my best option... would just need to get the 4.3 and my spare 1.8 sold to make some space and money for the 3.8.. i know at least one of you guys are running a turbo GN engine right now any opinions on the 3.8 vs a 4.3? i know it isnt hard to get an adapter to slap a t5 or my 700r4 behind the buick.. my main concern is how reliable or the gn motors for a daily driver? mileage may not be amazing but with that thing under the hood i could care less
