I have a 1980 luv and a 1984 trans am the question is will the rear end out of the car work or should i look for one that is not as wide. Most of the stuff on the net say to use the older camarrow rear end, drive line, oil pan, and motor mounts but i found the trans am for $600 it has a 5 speed 305 and rear disk breaks that would be nice. The truck is not going to be made for the strip just the street and some 2wd off road stuff.

Your rear is 54" WMS to WMS, most anything else that is stronger is wider. A Dana 44 from an early Rodeo is 58" and will have the correct lug bolt pattern, will be as strong or stronger than the TA if it has a GM 10-bolt.
