anyone know if I can put the rear axle of a colorado 6-lug in my 77 chevy luv stepside because i went to the dismantlers auto to ask and they told me that i can swap with the colorado 6 lug but i don't know the year of the colorado and how many changes i have to do thanks a lot. :?: :ebiggrin

The axle or the entire rearend? I would be almost certain that the width of the Colorado's chassis is wider than a LUV.

Your rear is 54" WMS to WMS. Isuzu pickups from '88 until discontinued after '95 were 58". The Colorado is at least 58" and looks wider, I would guess more like 61", possibly 63". A full size older model GM started at 65"-66". The trend today is to make the axles wider than in the past then locate the wheel mounting surface towards the outer rim to allow the wheel to tuck into the fender & still keep the sheet metal body the same width. Old style rims tended to have the WMS at the center or towards the inner rim. The point being you need to consider not only the axle width but the wheel & tire combination along with the axle to determine if it will fit. And just because it fits the back does not mean the same tire/wheel will fit the front.
