Alright guys I put a small block 350 with a th350 into my Luv with the power by ace headers & mounts. The first time around I had a regular starter for my staggard mount block its a very tight fit it got hot & was a pos after that. Well this time around I bought a mini starter that fits a 153 & 168 tooth flywheel. Alright that said it dont come close to fitting right now I have a 168 flywheel on the truck now so heres the real ? Can I just switch out the flywheel to a 153 tooth or do i got to change other things out also.

I run a 153 and a mini starter . The mini should be clockable . I have had the mini with both 153 &168 , but i have Hookers . Is the motor balanced ? If so internal or external ?

His issue is the ACE headers. The design they had until just recently wouldn't clear the starter on the 168 tooth flywheel. It requires a 153 tooth.

I'm pretty sure you can just swap flywheels. I don't think there are any other components affected, unless there are different size torque converters.

Thanks guys I solved the problem by getting a mini staggered mount, the only staggered in the catalog was over $200 & thats alot to me so after looking thru warehouse they found a cheaper one not in catalog for $130 after tax. It is still a real tight fit no matter what size starter you run with these headers the header tube is pressed against the mounting block on starter. I bought a starter wrap so it wont get hot on me this time & click 5 times before it engages.

His issue is the ACE headers. The design they had until just recently wouldn't clear the starter on the 168 tooth flywheel. It requires a 153 tooth.
Drummerforhire Your saying they redesigned the header for a better fit around the starter?

Yup. I ordered the first set. I'll let you know how they work when I get them. I'm also running the 168 tooth flywheel.

The original 153 tooth flywheel was for internal balanced engines, as were most 283, 327 and 350 engines in the 60's, 70's. The flywheel usually has both the 11 and 12 inch converter bolt patern on them. If you're going to run a 13" converter you must use the 168 tooth flywheel. There is an aftermarket external balance 153 tooth flywheel available, B&M I believe.
The manual flywheels also came as 153 and 168 tooth flywheels. They used 10 1/2" and 11" clutches. The trucks came with the 168 for the 11" and bigger clutches.

Back to the question at hand;
the earlier answer is dead on. Just use the appropiate internal or 153 tooth external flywheel and starter. Everthing else should just bolt up.
