Here we go.
You will notice that this is a C3 diff. I used this instead of the C4 because it'a a Dana44 and not the 36. It's far cheaper to use this with the C4 suspension than buying a Dana 44-C4 setup.
Cost me 52.00 to have the batwing welded. It has been shotened 3.5 inches per side. C3 and C4 use the same bushings in the batwing.

Is that that one that has the transmission in the rear with the differential?
I like your fender flares

The trans in it right now is a T-5. I have a T-56 from a Camaro ready to go in some day.
The flares are nothing more than pair of trailer fenders split in half.
Ok,OK I'll look at the title to see what year it is. It's been 10 years.
The Corvette IRS is so simple to install. I've got about 7 hours in it and the differential is mounted. This install is a little tougher because the C-3 diff has the pinion mount under the pinion yoke.
I had my choice of a 9 inch, Dana 60, or the 'vette IRS. For me, because I had all three of these in my shop, The IRS is going to be the cheapest to install.

So far it's about:
$54.00 for welding the batwing
$27.00 in steel
$100.00 to have the halfshafts narrowed
$180 complete C-5 brakes (E-bay)
$100 C-4 front hubs/spindles ( didn't want to break apart a complete suspension)
Free C-3 diff (came on a pallet of parts another project)
Free C-4 suspension ( bought a car for $600 for the suspension and traded the shell for another suspension set. Then sold the original suspension set for $900. But I'll just call it free)
$780.00 for the Carol Shelby series 1 three piece race wheels. That's about 4 grand in wheels. ( poorly listed on E-bay)

Brackets: OH, so simple. The front support for the pinion was a bit tricky only because I didn't want to mess with the exhaust.
I'm going to have to trim some material off the uprights. I'll have to narrow the half sharts 2" per side but remember I'm running 335 rears.
I will be adding gussets from the pinion mount to the down bars to transfer load. This will direct the force into the bars and not tend to twist the mounting bracket.

I was going to say the same thing. So maybe it's an '81 LUV with an '80 body, on a Corvette frame. ;)

OK, It's an '80. I had to go look at the title. After ten years of owning this thing I have never bought a "LUV" part for it.

The trailing arms were a bit tricky to do. Because I'm running 335's I had to tuck the trailing arm mount points under the frame rails. The factory upper mount location did not give be enough down travel in the suspension so I relocated it 2" down. Also notice that I did not use the "4-link" system from the 'vette. The factory 4-link is at best a compromise. The links are too short but everybody still tries to use them. You can use a trailing arm and use the forward spring perch mount for it.

It'll be my parts runner at the shop. It I have the time I'll run it at the Silver States Classic. this will depend on how well the front suspension works.

Right now It's got a TPI 355, around 375hp. If I change powerplants, I'll go to a 4.125 bore LS block with a short stroke crank.

I built an addapter bracket to mount the C4 toe adjuster to the C3 batwing. There were four casting points on the batwing that were perfect to build off of.

Image
Coilovers installed. Off to the front.

Image

Image

I had to extend the lower ball joint mounting point 1.75" out to get the track where I wanted it.

Image

The upper ball joint moved out .25" and forward .25". The lower must also move forward .50". This is because the spindle is not on the ball joint centerline . If you don't remember this your wheels move back .50".

Image

The upper control arm runs uphill with the 'vette spindle. This creates a de-cambering suspension which is good for a nose heavy pig like this. The is a little steeper thwn I like but I'm going to go with it. If I don't like the way it works I'll rase the control arm mounting point an inch.
