Hello, Im new to the forum , and have zero knowledge of wheel fitment of above make . I just purchased above truck and was wondering if some of the pros on here could awnser some of my questions etc . I have a unfired [new ] Musi 421 that I will be installing in my truck with a powerglide and a Dana - 60 , my first question is how big of a tire can be installed on above stepside truck without tubbing rearend etc , does the stepside model have any advantages with width issues over standard bed . I would like to run Cal-trac bars with the springs they make also , thanks Chris

Congratulation Chris,
Sounds like you've got quite a project going, If you build the Dana 60 rear end with a 51" span (backing plate to backing plate) your choice of tires is unlimited, but you will probably have to find some wheels with a 3 1/2 backspace to avoid spring interference. There are several articles on this site that show how you can move your springs inboard if desired.
Good luck, dp

Actually, tire width is slightly smaller than the fleetside beds on the most common stepside beds. (there are 3 versions, I believe, the one like I have on my avatar truck has the flaired bottom wheel edges is slightly wider than the rest). A 10 inch wide tire is going to be tricky, anything more than that will require some surgery...

With perfect measurements and the correct backspace a 10.5 will work . Tire height as you know is not an issue , as a 30 inch tire will fit . Terry is correct in that the step bed sides extend about an inch past the frame rails . The fleet beds are at or very close to flush with the frame rails . We also need a picture of the bed . I have 2 different sets of rear fenders for mine and the flared set allow for an extra inch of tire . The step beds were dealer options . As i understand it , trucks came over from Japan without the beds so they were assembled in the USA .

Oh and welcome to the forum

I totally forgot about those starside beds. Lucky for all of us they faded fast.

IMO they are not well suited for the LUV's body lines... Very dated also..

This is the bed he actually has . The tailgate is different then mine . It doent have the side steps . and it has the gas filler . My fenders like this don't have the gas filler .
