Hey guys,

Well I have the engine mounted in its spot..(tight fit). Anways been thinking a lot about what to do with that damn rear end and though i would see what you guys thought...Anyways im debating whether to keep the stock one in there and get a driveshaft built....or take more time and money and put and chevy truck rear end or ford 9" in there....($$$$$) (im running low on that with the project) Im running a 283 sbc and turbo 350 tranny......283 is prob gonna pump 220 hp at the most....do you think this will explode the stock rear end.....or should i quit dinking around and do it right wiht a "real" rear end?? I like the idea of 4:56 stock rear end gearing.....  ...but thought i would see what all you guys think..thanks!

stock rear end should be fine for that application especially if the TH350 is stock. If you add a good shift kit, the rear end will still hold up but not forever.

Holding up should be no problem as I had a freind drive his around town for years without a glitch. The problem he had was the RPM's when trying to drive on the highway. They were really high. In town at slower speeds it was OK. His truck was extremely quick, not fast (toped out at 95 MPH), but coming off the line would push you back hard into the seat when he could get traction.

I dont think there are spools available for a stock rear end. I rememver when a friend of mine showed me the "spool" in his Datsun pickup..... he had welded the spider gears together... I wouldnt reccomend this.

Try a Toyota truck rear end. They make a lot of LS and locker rear ends for those.

power trax makes a loker for the luv rear end. Its made for off road aplications but would work great for the strip too. And the best part you wont sacrifice turning becouse an off road locker will ratchet then when torque is aplied it locks up like a spool. Just ask for it at a 4x4 shop.

I ran the stock rear end in mine for alot of years. As for drive shaft, there is 2 different lengths 1 is about a 1" longer, use that driveshaft and the front yoke out of one with a at,cut the tin shield off the front yoke and bolts right in no problems.I had a 350 with TH350 with a good shift kit.Just buy good quality u-joints.Replace them about every 6 months.I used to hammer on them Hard.

If you get a 3rd member out of mid 80s Izusu p'up you can get 3.42 ratio. All you have to do is take out the 2 lower studs and put in 2 long bolts, and everything bolts right up
