I picked up a drive-line and five speed transmission from ctmandu. I was hoping i could just swap out the yoke from the i mark to my luv drive line , but the yoke off the i mark is 1/2 a inch to long. Aside from paying a shop to shorten it I was wondering if I could make it fit some how. What do you guys think?

Are you sure it won't just slide in 1/2" further?

If not, what's to stop you from putting the shorter yoke on the driveshaft you need it on?

I have a 27-spline yoke and a 17-spline yoke available for sale, if that would help. The 27-spline is already listed here for sale (somewhere) but I have not listed the 17-spline one. If you need it, I'll sell the 17-spline one for $20 + $4 to ship it. If you want me to take measurements, let me know.

I would just take the yoke off the shaft and take it to a machine shop. Shouldn't be that much to turn it down. maybe even check around with a local vo-tech school. Hell if you was closer I would turn it for ya.

I think I get it now. You're not saying the yoke is too long for the transmission output shaft, but it's too long for your driveshaft. :?:

If that's the case, machining it down may not help. The shaft may hit the back of the socket and still be too long.

The yoke off the I mark trans is 'staked' in and the holes for the U joint is a little smaller. I dropped it off at a drive line shop I'm hoping they can bore out the hole and re-steak in a u joint.

Other than that I'm not going to stress about 1/2 of an inch to much.

I'm trying to figure out what rear-end I want to switch to.

I have a few options.
automatic luv
81 luv 4x4
83 2wd five speed

Not sure what one would be my best bet for freeway driving. Any suggestions?

im new to luvs so what each has idk but a higher gearing is always going to be beneficial 3.11 -> 3.73 -> 4.56 any thing that will lower operating rpm on the freeway... but you are going to sacerfice acceleration and pulling power in the process

Is the u-joints the same size? If they are just change the yoke end.

The u joint is just a tad bit larger. I found some one that will do this for me and I will post pics as soon as I get it.

Got it all installed! Man It would be nice to have a fully equipped shop, that was a pain in the butt.

The drive line was a tight fit, but I got it in place. Aside from having to pull the drive line back off and replacing the output shaft seal every thing seems to be working fine and the RPM seemed a bit lower at high speeds.

Here is what the drive line shop did for me.

So if you have a leak in your tranny where the slip yolk goes in make sure you didn't add to much oil. It would totally suck to spend a good two hours on your cold garage floor trying to replace that seal for no reason........just sayin.
