Post subject: Long Bed Drag Truck
PostPosted: Fri Sep 05, 2003 11:48 am
Anyone else build a long bed into a Drag truck?

I'm slowly building mine up but am not sure what to do about the 2-piece driveshaft. I've broken it about 6 times and it is by far the biggest weakness on my drivetrain. Any ideas?

Personally I was thinking a custom shaft from Mark Williams, but that gets expensive.

BTW, I am so glad I have finally found a place to feed my obsession for my little truck. Not to mention seeing that I am not the only one around that is modding one of these. (Well, I knew about Todd's Luv in Littleton.)

You guys are the best!

MW driveshafts are the shit (especially the chromemoly) if you dont mind parting with a LARGE chunk of change. try a one piece steel driveshaft . I know people in the 9's using the original one piece 6cyl drive shaft in their car.

Welcome Nick, Glad to see you finally found us here!! I wanted to tell you about the site but didn't have your email addy anymore. So building the truck for the strip now huh?? Weren't you using it as a daily driver last I talked to you??? Don't know anywhere around here to get a driveshaft for ya, but my brother had a long bed with a V-6 and went with a one piece and it worked pretty good for him. I had mine built at Englewood Driveshaft but wouldn't recommend them. They welded washers on it for balance instead of regular wieghts! Hope to see you here regularly.

seen washers welded on the driveshaft for balance before. its fairly common practice. No big deal, as long as they weigh the correct amount and do their job. they usually tack a regular weight on if it needs a LOT of counterbalance.

Yeah, it was my daily driver, but then I burnt an intake valve. So I set it back an got an old '79 BMW 528i (wonderful car for it's price, I may add) as a daily driver.

Now that I'm not depending on it to get to work I can really take it apart and do some radical changes.

Good stuff.

BTW Todd, how'd that door turn out? They got a couple more Luv's down at the Pull n' Save if you need parts, just watch your sockets. :D

The thing that made me mad about that was I told him it was going on a show truck and the driveshaft would be seen. So every time I showed I had to spin the driveshaft so the washers were pointing down so they wouldn't show.

Hey Nick, when did you go to Pull-N-Save?? I was there 3 weeks ago and they didn't have any LUV's. But I did get 2 pretty good doors from Colorado truck and auto salvage in the early spring (and a trick idea from PNS to redo my hood next time  ). Last time I went to my Dad's I put the drivers door on, looks kind of funny but it can be driven now. If you ever go back and see some 94-98 toyota supra lights LMK!!! (If you know what they look like that is)

Oh yea and thanks for looking out for my tools and fingers!!! :D

I was there last week and they had two Luv's. And I'll keep an eye out for any Supras. I normally go there about once a week, so it's not a big problem.

It's good to see you have the door on. With some paint it'll look just like it used to.
