Hey Guys, new to the site, I just got a great 79 4x4 only thing is the 1.8 engine is currently not working. I am wanting to go the diesel route. I does have a 4spd manual tranny. I was wondering what the easiest or best route is to go in order to get a diesel running luv. Please let me know what the best easiest and cheapest route to go is. Thanks cheers

I read somewhere that the chevette had a 1.8L diesel engine that was a basic bolt in swap but you will still have to modify wiring and the fuel system for the diesel engine.

On the diesels that came stock in LUVs the starter is on the opposite side as a gas engine, so at least you will have to change bellhousing and and input shaft on the tranny. Best would be finding a running donor truck (Turbo with 5sp best) that had been wrecked or had major rust, swap over what parts you need.
