i have a chance to pickup a 87 mustang gt rear for 70 bucks. i was wondering if anyone knows the gear ratio that came in these and ring gear size, also the width of it :twisted:

3:73 is probably your best guess. My friend has an 87 mustang and he swapped the rear out for a 3:55 and im pretty sure he said it was a 3:73 originaly.

My neighbor has asn 87 GT. I think he said it's an 8.8. I'll try to ask him tomorrow and find out for sure.

i was thinking of replacing the 8" in my truck with that, but i don`t think i`m going to now. the rear i have works fine, why change what`s not broke. it would just get me started on another project i don`t need at the moment. thanks anyways

its most likely a 2.73:1 or a 3.00:1 ring and pinion. 8.8" is the ring diameter... dont know the width off hand but i have heard of people using them in minitruck conversions. they are a pretty durable rear end. I would keep the 8" you already have though.

ne body know where the best place to get a 9" from or some thing thatll hold up to a th350
with a th400 tranny?
and ill prall have to shorten the drivshaft wont i ?
