Has anyone use a 700R4 transmission in their chevy luv with a 350 in it? If so, how well does it hold up? I need a transmission with an overdrive to put in my 1975 chevy luv with a 350 motor and I can't seem to find a better transmission that will hold up and has the gears.

well it aint in a luv but my father in law has a 700r4 in his 55 bel air mated to a 427 that he races and hasnt had a problem with it at all.

its what i intend to put in my luv with 350 there is no reason why it wouldnt hold up just fine to a mildly built 350.

but, the more build you go with the engine, the more you would want to build up the tranny in my opinion

They hold up very well, assuming you are not gonna run slicks or put any serious (600+ ft/lb) power to it. You will want to make sure you connect the kick down cable up CORRECTLY, so this will require you to re-index the pivot point on the carb so it has the correct throw. Mess this up and you will be lucky to see it live 20k miles. Also the 700R4's have an electronic "lock up" converter, you will see a 4 pin plug on the passenger side of the tranny case, this is the connector for the lock-up or "TCC". If you hook that up - you can just use a switch to engage the TCC solenoid, or if you feel like dropping the valve body, you can put an extra check ball in so that the converter locks up in OD automaticly - no wires needed at all. I suggest the switch, and if you want to get real fancy, put in a vacuum switch so the TCC will unlock when going up hills, or when a load is put on it, especialy if you drive it a lot. If you want something more bulletproof, you can still find 4L80(E)'s with the correct housing, these are like a TH400 with overdrive, and can handle upwards of 1000+ ft/lb of torque in stock form. FYI

As long as you dont put a sticky tire on there you will be fine on the street. Normal street tires wont stick good enough to hurt a healthy 700. But you start loading to hard (slicks,no2, stall converter, or rear bars) it wont last long...

I got a 700r behind a 327 in my street Blazer, good info already, I just want to add, get an upgraded sunshell such as the beast, it is around 70 bucks. That is what usually breaks on them. Do that, and it is at least as strong as a th350. After going to the 700r, I won't be going back...

Good luck.

Let's just say, there was a reason I could pull my motor and trans in under an hour...

Practice.

I run the 200-4R and I have had alot of success with them. But a 700 isnt bad either.

Do you happen to have pics or a diagram on how to hook up the plug and kickdown? I just put one in my truck and I have the kick down hooked up to the carb.

What about a 4WD 700R4? Would I be able to put that in my 79 Mikado 4x4? I was thinking of a 350 or maybe even 305 to match it up with.

Also it's better to start a new thread to get more people to answer instead of Image someone else's thread.
