I have an 80 Luv 4-by-4 & the fuel pump quit pumping. I can get it to work with a jumper wire, but it won't work with the key on. Is there a fuse somewhere that I missed? Any other ideas?

Thanx, 80luv4by4

On my 77, the fuel pump is powered by a relay controlled by the voltage regulator. There is a white/red wire that runs from the voltage regulator to the relay under a panel behind the battery. There is a hot wire in, perhaps a branch of the black ignition wire. The white/red wire also runs to the charge light. If it isn't hot, the light will be on. The system is a PITA.

Check the ignition switch. Sometimes the "run" position melts or gets corrroded.

Check the fuel pump fuse with a meter (not just visual). Check the fuse block for a loose connection or a corroded connection underneath or where the fuse installs.

Good point on the meter. I once spent all night driving over to the next state when my LUV conked out on our daughter. I don't remember if I even looked at the fues. Her boyfriend had checked it. I had taken a wire with alligator clips on both ends. The coil is close to the battery. The next day after getting some sleep, I checked the fuse. It looked fine, but was open. The fuel pump runs off the ignition. I remember, while I had a stock one, it blew the ignition fuse several times.
