Right now I dont have a Luv, but Im looking at a couple that are in decent shape, for a DD to get me out of my fuel hungry dually.
But Im also thinking for long term project for a mean, cheap offroad rig.

anyway, I was wondering if anyones ever done something along the lines of a 3800 series(3.8L) GM V6 swap in or a TH200 or 200R4 swap in to a Luv? seems like those would be a fairly potent combo for a mild streetable 4x4 Luv without adding alot of unnecessary weight and keeping decent fuel economy. not to mention those are fairly common and cheap engines and trans'

I carry the mounts for a 2WD Luv to install buick V6 series engines.

bad part for you, the 200R4 can not be used in conventional 4X4 manner as the 200 does not have a removable tailshaft. Only options are BOP 350-400 or Chevy 250-4L80E

Is there a five-speed available that would bolt in behind a 3800 v6 in my 79 LUV? Or if this is already a topic, could someone link me to it? And how much modification would I need to do to put the tranny in?

For the money, time, and work you would be better off putting in a Isuzu 2.6 and the MUA trans out of a 88 Up Trooper.

If you still want a 3800 Buick the quick and easy way is the 700R4 and a passenger side transfer case out of a 4X4 GM truck but beware as this is not as easy as it sounds if you are not into fabricating but is very doable.

Or just get the running gear out of a S10 but you still have to change the T-case.

right on the money!

The 5 speed and transfer case from an S10 will work as well. just about any trans with a 60* bellhousing.
