Has anyone ever ran a supercharger or turbo on a 350 with stock internals? If so, how much boost can they handle? I used to have an AWD turbo eagle talon, and a Turbo Toyota supra. Both cars hauled ass. I ran 22 psi on race gas in the talon for a 12.5 1/4 and I ran 18 psi on the supra for a top speed of 170 on the freeway. My point is, I'm addicted to boost, there is just something about the sound of a big turbo when it gates, or the sound of a blow-off valve when you shift gears. I want to do something different, so I am thinking about building a twin-turbo V8 luv. I could put it together pretty cheap if I just ran the stock internals for now, until I rebuild it with forged componets. If I run dual externally-gated mitsubishi 14B's with an air-to-air intercooler and dual blow-off valves, at 10 psi each, which is a very low setting for those turbos, I should be able to get a extremely quick spool time and a butt-load of horsepower. On a typical V8, you can probably get 12-15 horsepower/ 1 psi. So, dual turbos running 10 psi each should come out to like 260 hp or more on top of a motor that is already like 300-400 hp. Once I build the motor, I could easily run 15-20 psi each. Or, upgrade to a pair of 20g's and a big fatty water-to-air. The 20g's are about $600 each though, for used ones. The truck will be tube chassised, with a built 9 inch with some serious rubber. Turbonetics built a twin-turbo V8 celica, which was the first import to break in to the 200 mph 1/4. It has a 4.6L (289ci) toyota Tundra engine. It put out like 1700 hp. So, its not a new idea. If I manage to do this, the truck should run at least 8 second range. The good thing about turbos though, rather than a supercharger, is that you can turn to boost down to make it more streetable. I could run 5 psi each for a daily driver, then with the push of some buttons and the turn of a fuel pressure regulator, I could run 20 psi each for a 900hp, holy shit!, I crapped my pants ride of your life. Plus, unless the turbo is spooled, you basically just have a V8, which isn't too hard to drive. Let me know what you think or if you have ever heard of it. I know there are people doing this, just not in luvs. I have seen a couple chevelles and camaros running turbos. I already have some "blueprints" if you will, of how I could run the plumbing and the manifolds and all that stuff. How do you think it will sound? Like a fighter jet breathing through daul 4.5" exhaust!
HAHAHAHAHAHA! (evil laugh)
Peace guys, thanks for the space.

So, has anyone ran turbos or a supercharger on a stock componets? I am just curious how much boost it can handle. I've heard that people have ran 350 + hp shots of Nitrous before it went kurpow!. That is the equivelent of lots of boost. So, any input would be great.
THanks

Not sure how much the limit would be but 5-10lbsof boost would be safe on a good tune up. Make sure you have an adequate fuel system to keep up. I have been wanting to do a LS1 turbo swap 4ever. You could go with some 3.55s in the rear and have a sweet street truck that would run like crazy at the strip and cruise home on pump fuel with no problem. :D

My thoughts exactly! I love turbos. In a V8 luv, there wouldn't be any lag either. Thanks for the input. I will post pics and stuff if I decide to do it. I am just trying to get it on road for now. Thanks

are you planning on injection or carb. if your planning a blpw through system for carb your gonna have to get some work done there. if you can keep detonation in check i would say stock parts would be fine as long as you keep the rpms down as well. some of the guys i go to the dunes with are running up to 23 psi on some of the cars with stock parts. they have problems with breaking the transaxles not the motors.

I will be running an EFI setup. I would like to run a manual tranny. Maybe a Muncie M-22 or something. I have a TH400 which can be hella tough, but a turbo is more fun to drive with a stick.
