ive been considering this route, and was wondering if the stock distributor's vacuum advance, when hooked up to boost would effectively retard the timing when under boost... if so this would be perfect, but if not the does any one know of an easy way to make this happen.

thanks
Dustin

You need to put a vac. port on the other side of the diaphragm of the vac. adv.

trying the ol corvair way of retarding timing.

Best bet is to use an MSD BTM6 controls the timing much more effectively than just the pressurizing the canister.

I agree with dr_frankenstein. If you're going to go all-out on a turbo, you should spring for the electronic ignition and timing controls as well.

idealy yes an msd would be great, but just for now and with a low boost application (10psi. max), i was just wanting to make it work. so ill just to what tj said and later on once i get all the kinks with just bosting it worked out ill probably jump for the msd system.
thanks
Dustin

the problem with just adding a vacuum port to the other side is there is no control over the rate of timing retard.

your on a path to a blown motor.

who knows at what point the dizzy "cracks" and actually starts retarding, or weather the canister will survive 10 lbs of boost.

the G180 is not very tolerant of over boost. and detonation will burn her down at 5lbs of boost.

do it right. dont be cheap. or its going to hurt when i said, "I Told You So"

pertronix is only 80 to a hundred bucks just wait for a couple pay checks before the turbo i would say put the pertronix on first then go with a cheaper msd 5a ignition box which you can get through the msd site and then you can boost it but it will cost you less if you wait and dont blow the engine.not to be/sound rude but its the best way to go as im doin the same thing but with a greddy turbo and having a special exhaust and intake maifold made and custom cold air box made to fit on the carb and custom intake tubing from a machine shop to fit in the stock air cleaner hole place in the core support its goin to be a sleeper already have turbo setup and intercooler and blowoff valve setup

i had actually given it some thought about it and considered just moving the vacuum advance to the opposite side if the dizzy then, changuing the spring that actuates the advance so its in constant advance, adjust the timing with it this way to normal, and then moving the vacuum port as tj said just so i can see it run this way. untill i csan get stand alone spark managemnet.... hope you can all follow me(i just had a few to drink  )
