Question... I need to swap the shift lever on the '87 impulse 5-speed going in my truck and I have the shift lever from a '90 Pup and I believe it was a remote shifter. Anyone know if this is going work or do I need to go return it?

I'm not sure if I understand your Q. Does the '90 truck part have a remote shifter? I know the RWD I-Marks shift lever is located about 3"-4" forward of the automatic lever. When changing over from auto to standard it requires cutting a new hole in the center tranny tunnel/"hump" forward of the existing opening and sealing the original (the cutout piece is great - already conforms to the curve). A common complaint is smacking your knuckles into the dash going from 2nd into 3rd. Ctmandu told me he just bent his shift lever to a more comfortable location. I believe some Impulses had a remote shifter and if you don't want it, I do! I'll even drive over to pick it up! As to your Q, try to test fit and see how close it looks.

I'll try to clear up what I was asking, lol. The '87 Impulse 5-speed has, obviously, a car's shifter which is too short and so I need the shifter from a 5-speed Pup. I know that the transmissions changed after '87 to the MUA transmissions and the shifter I picked up is from a '90 Pup.

So... will a '90 Pup shift lever work with an '87 Impulse's 5-speed?

is the 90 truck a 2.3L 2.6L or 3.1L V-6 :?:

gota be a 2WD with 2.3L to be the same trans.

the 2.6 and 3.1 have the MUA
1988 up the 2.3L is a 2WD only engine with the older MSG.

That's a great question... I need to go back and verify what 4 cyl it has. It was about to rain on me and my buddy the day we went, so I was in a bit of a rush.

Thanks Trooper!
