I am the newest new guy Noggin. I recently purchased a 1975 Chevy LUV. My dream truck. I sold me 1969 C10 to help build this truck. I am going to swap out the original 1.8 with an 81 Isuzu Pup motor. I could use basically a walk through on this. I have done some research but could use some good advice as to what i'm looking into. Any help would be great. This truck is going to be my daily driver and my one true love! haha so it's important.

Welcome, Noggin.

Is the P'up motor a gasser, or a diesel?

Jack

welcome

are bolth autos 2WD?

is it a 1.9L, 2.3L or 2.6L gas engine.
does the doner have the 4 or 5 speed Manuel or 3 speed auto trans??
and what year is the doner auto.

with a hole auto to take the drive systom from many times just changing the hole thing is best.

but if you have a auto trans with 4.11s or a 4 speed trans, you may not like one of those sorta set ups.

(so if its a 5 speed no need to read all that stuff below)

(in my opinion)
autos are horred on the open road, insane high rpms at 65mph with 27" tires your pushing 3,400rpms
all the auto transes 81/87 came with 4.11 gears not 3.73s
the 4 speed if its matched with 4.11 gears is not much better, but for many 4X4s its just about as good as it gets, 3,000rpms at 60ish.
short of swapping in a hard to find 5 speed from a 86/87 4X4

then on the flip side, a 4 speed with the 3.42 gears is no fun in town, or on hills.

the best combo i think is, 3.73s with a 5 speed.
still have good off the line power, and 5TH gear is lower rpms than with a 4speed with 3.42 gears

86 L\B 4X4 gas 5 speed 2.3
the twins, 81 pup and 81 LUV both are diesel 2.2
