ok i have a 1980 LUV Mikado bone stock missing a few parts unfortunately
but its all good im buying another 80 luv engine that is disassembled for parts
so im wondering if there are any cheap ways to pull a little more power out of my sad little 1.8L engine and get me up over that speed flatline of 60 (come on the highway speed here is 70)
i have access to a milling machine, lathe, drill press and welders as well as an entire shop full of just about any hand and power tool you care to name so tools aren't really the issue. i have been thinking about making a custom intake so i can bolt up a more free flowing carb and maybe fab up some headers.
what would be the best inner diameter or tubing to use for headers and intake?
and are there any of those misc little things that can be done to squeeze a little more top end power from my engine that arent going to totally break the bank since its already getting all cob webbed up.
whats the deal on the smog setup?
any advice on the topic would be appreciated and if i can fab up some parts that do increase power and work out well on my truck i think i might have to start producing some more and sell them here on good ol' luvtruck.com to all of the other enthusiasts out there since i know its becoming damn near impossible to find performance parts anymore

also. has anyone experimented with a import performance car style intake? with the larger diameter smooth bend tubing and a more cone shaped K&N style air filter mated with headers and a weber? the increased air/fuel flow and the increased exhaust flow would pull much more power than the stock carb, restrictive intake and manifolds wouldn't it and should allow for higher RPM with the extra air/fuel mix to burn? and setting that up for yourself shouldn't take much more than an afternoon under the hood and a good pipe bender

im a motocross guy and it tends to carry over to my driving i love to rev the shit out of my motor so higher RPM power would be nice if it can be cheaply obtained through custom making of parts?
does anyone happen to have that idea they have wanted to try forever but never found the parts or the tools to make the part? lemme know what you think and i might be able to make the part your looking for and start selling them off

Vancouver but yes
same damn thing just a river between
i will have to come do that and see what you have going down there. the pics of the engines you sent looked like they were definately putting out some power!
seriousl how did you come up with that R1 carb engine? thats genious individual carb for each cylinder. and since its designed for such a high RPM engine the flow rate for each has to be pretty high compared tothe single stock double barrel carb

just by reading what others have done. i look to Europe for the 4 cylinder info as they like to hop them up and use the bike carbs allot...
also check this site out on hop up ideas for the luv motor... some of the turbo guys get 1000 hp out of them (drag car) but for the street they will get over 300hp

well since you and taz seem to be the ones to ask about this whole type of thing
since i have a 1980 4x4 mikado i have a bit of a problem with a 5 speed swap since the
driveshaft length would need to be changed 2" front and 1.5" rear i believe
im stuck with the stock 1.8L 4 cyl and 4 speed for now either way due to lack of funds. :esad

it would seem like it would be more cost effective to just buy a used 2.8L V6 from an S10/S15 with a 5 speed and drop that in and mate power with decent gas mileage
im thinking about removing the front driveshaft and save the headache of dealing with 2 drive shafts to work with the 5 speed trans on the 2.8
would a 2.8L even fit in a 4x4 luv without massive modifications :?:
my luv is going to spend the majority of its life on the road since i have dirtbikes for my fun in the dirt so the 4wd isn't really a big deal to me however being able to meet freeway speed of 60-70 depending on the area is quite a big deal (another dumbass 18 yr old with a need to go as fast as physically possible, yes i know your thinking it) i mean come on the body styling of the luv just makes it look like it needs to be going fast

i have been trying to find the right thread but still havent found the right one so i figured i would ask someone who knew their way around a luv
