Remove the inner fenders and core support. cut the headlight section out of the core support to reuse. build a NASCAR style hoop in the engine bay and attach fenders, hood hinges, headlight supports, and upper radiator brackets it. drop the radiator over the front of the frame. You will need to trim the lower valence just behind the grill for radiator clearance. That's it!. Short style waterpump and some clearancing of the leading crossmember for pulley clearance.
as soon as i figure out how to post pics here I will. Car smart, computer stupid.

Heres a good list: http://www.35pickup.com/mulligan/weight.txt

The 454 has a specific mention of 675lb and also look at the all aluminum 427 of only 550lb which is actually lighter than a 350.

Not trying to take sides but just thought this would be helpful to anyone at all.

Well I decided to revist the site (as I was looking for front disc conversions) and the truck is now done. So whenever Frankenpuss wants to run whatever he's got, we can do it (oh by the way, I am in Lost Causes, NM as well Frankenpuss). Maybe we can set up a little physics lesson for you on power to weight ratios. I think the El Paso track is opening in March. Be more than happy to meet you there. We can run them straight up before I end up adding two Holset HX35's to the equation at the end of the year. At least as it is now, your little forced induction V6 might keep up.

Exhaust is getting installed next week and after that I should be ready to roll. Again, to all of you that had positive input, thanks. Pic attached below.

As for the 5 lug swap... I hear the aerospace kit is real nice. you will need the weight advantage.

Sounds like a deal then. I'll look for you on here as soon as the race season starts in El Paso.

As far as Aerospace is concerned, I think you are right. Not only do they have the reduced weight (which I will so desperately need), but they also have other cool stuff like "product liability insurance" and a "warranty" and "quality control".

See ya at the track this Spring / Summer A.J., and we'll see what your 231's got.

yup quality control and warrenty and product liability...

something I dont know about.

what i would like to know, is if your such a proclaimed professional and have such awesome automotive skill then why are you on the board asking for help instead of teaching us?

oh yea... i forgot... you cant build your own 5 lug... LOL. oh wait, but you do know how to stuff 10lbs of crap in a 2 lb sack. can you teach me that?

Come on man, do you really wanna start a pissing match with me? cause ive got nuthing but time and resources. Ask Rick, Mike at Mikes Performance, Mike at High Desert Machine, Rudy at A1, Bob at Adult toy factory.... They can all vouch that making an enemy out of me is a bad choice, but if you wanna race, better bring your game.

A.j.

1. Never claimed to be a "professional" or to have "awesome automotive skill". In fact, I started this thread asking for advice, and believe it or not several people here have provided constructive input. I know where my skill level is and because I work a full time job, teach at one of our local universities during the evening, attend graduate school, and have a family to care for, I can't spend as much time working on my projects as I would like, so my learning curve due to time constraints has been slow.

2. Just because you think it's "unreasonable" to put a big block in a Chevy Luv, doesn't mean the rest of the world does. In fact, I have discovered several guys that have built Luvs and gone the big block route. Last time I checked it was my bank account and my truck so I will build whatever I want. Again, people in this thread have given useful advice on how to complete the big block swap and I thank those of you that helped out.

3. Start a pissing match with you? I think you started all the shit talking. And before we go any farther, there is no doubt in my mind that you have more build experience and technical know how than I do. Like I said, I am just a weekend guy with this project trying to make the thing happen and have gotten alot of local support (in fact, from A1 machine where I have been taking parts to probably before you picked up your first wrench) to help get it done. Your front end conversion looks professional and I am sure you put alot of time and effort into that process.

4. Finally, don't know what "making an enemy out of you" is supposed to mean. Quite honestly I don't really care. If you wanna race, let's do it this summer. If you don't, that's fine by me as well. There is no doubt in my mind that your 231 is probably a screaming little engine, obviously weighs less, and probably moves your Luv along at a good clip. My big block is moderately built at best right now, but that doesn't mean I won't have fun running it. If I win, good for me. If you win, good for you and I'll tell you congratulations. This truck is undergoing a long process and at the end of the summer, it will continue on that process..

I have no dog in this fight. To each his own.

Just my unrelated experience:
Back in "the day" (whatever that means) I built a strong but streetable 350 and dropped it into a 72 Vega. It was my daily driver in college. Not once did I ever wish for more power, more front-end weight or less grip. The car had a posi rear diff and still lit the tires on demand.
