Does anyone know that the axel model is for a 1975 Chevy Luv? I'm looking to order new pinion and gear set off of summit racing but I don't know what type my axel is. I don't plan on changing axels for a while due to money limitations so I'll have to stick to my factory axel. If anyone can help me pick out a good ring and pinion gear set that would fit the factory axel, it would be greatly appreciated!

For what they want for a ring and pinion on Summit you could use

http://www.car-part.com

to find a complete third member in whatever gear ratio you want for less money. Plus don't forget you'll need a a ring and pinion install kit. I suggest you do that.

72-80 Chevy LUV third member are all interchangeable. 4.56, 4.10, 3.73 gears available.
Some Isuzu pups had 3.42. Isuzu Pup 1983 will fit the LUV (what I have), later years might also.
Isuzu Impulse had 3.90 and a limited slip on some models.

I have a little debate going on with myself on what gear ratio I want to use. Right now my pickup only goes about 85-90 mph at 5500 rpm and it has the stock 4.56 gears in it. What are you're guys' thoughts about what my gear ratio should be? I'm still trying to settle for 3.73 or the 4.10. My pickup really gets up there pretty darn fast but what I'm looking at is at least hitting 120 or higher. If you have any other advice, it is always welcomed!

If you want to consistently go 120 mph in your Luv (I am assuming with the 1.8L still in it) I would go with the 3.73. That would keep your RPM's down a little lower. If you're not worried about towing I would consider going lower.....3.23 or along that line if you can make it happen.

I've swapped out the 1.8 L motor for a small block chevy 350. I also have a TH-350 transmission and I don't think I'll be needing it to tow anything with it.... so what do you think I should have with them specifications?

The 3.73 if the 3.4s are not very common.

and dont over tyre the thing or you will go through diffs like nothing youve seen. Keep em nice and skinny on the back.

Cheers, Bob

You could get a 3.42 ratio out of a diesel luv or pup but I wouldnt recommend going that fast with the stock rear end and brakes. I have a hard time slowing down from 80 mph in my '75 and thats with disc brakes up front and the stock 4.56 rear and brakes. Where do you plan on driving this fast?
