i found a 76 5 speed manual tranny from a 2wd luv. and i want to swap it with the 4 speed manual i have in my other luv. but what i was wondering is if the 5 speed tranny would mount with with the transfer case that came with the 4 speed.

No.

Where the transfer gears are in the 4x4 4speed is where the 5th gear is in the 5 speed.

So if you did it, you would be making the 5 speed into a 4 speed so it could be a 4x4.

Thats why the 5 speed 4x4 transmission has an extra section in it, to allow for the 5th gear. The vehicles fitted with the 5 speed 4x4 box had the transmission crossmembers in the chassis in a different spot because of the longer transmission.

Cheers ,Bob.
