4x2 pups 1981 to 1987 had 3.42 3.73 and 4.11s
only the auto trans has the 4.11s
only the MPG+ model has the 3.42s all are 4 speed (unless it was sold in CA state). there a 5 speed. olso i think there all short beds.
it whould say MPG+ on the cab behind the doors at the top of the bed.

all others are the most commen 3.73 and 5 speed.

this is for diesels, there may be a odd ball gas pot gearing that i dont know about. but i know theres none more agresseve than 4.11

the 3.73 is a good mach for the gas engine and not gitting a way steep 1st and reverse.
the 3.42 is real steep if moving cargo. or DD big hills

all 4x4 pups are 4.11s, unless for some odd reson 4.55s from a 84/86 trooper where put in it.

Guess that lotta people are doing this. I did it, best mod I've done so far. I have 3.73s from a 83 Pup, was a bolt in swap I did in my garage on jack stands with hand tools. Heads up, for 3.73 I think you will have to take out two of the 3rd member mounting studs and replace them with long bolts. Not a big issue, and fortunately it's not a blind hole. It was two 90 mm bolts I used, I believe.

I think the 5-speed gassers were 4.11. I'll see if I can confirm.

I dont know where your info comes from.
I got a 4.11 in mine and its a pig to back a loaded car trailer.

The Isuzu manuals i have state, 1000kg rated have 4.555 ratio. 500kg rated have 4.11 ratio. 4 speed or 5 speed it makes no difference. 1.6L 1.8L 2L 2.3L petrol and the C190 C223 C223T

We did not get automatics so i do not have any info on that but i would suspect the 3.7 or there abouts. Maybe the 3.4 was for a lower GVM rated auto.

You could get the center from an Isuzu impulse with a 5 link rear end (turbo or 2.3L), they were 3.9 and if its a manual car it should be an LSD.

Cheers, Bob.

sorry should of stated

my info is for USA spec 81/87 isuzu pups only, not any Australia spec autos

no 81\87 pup had 4.55 gears at all, though the 84/86 isuzu troopers have the same axils and the 4.55 in them, they can be put in a pup if needed

we do have a small number of Isuzu impulse with the LSD but i dont know if its 3.90~to1 no pup or trooper had a LSD with a 10 bolt rear
after re-reading it, it looks like im saying these are world wide standerds

i hope this clears things up :?:
