Which 4x4 Isuzus have the proper axles so that I can do a gear swap? I searched but didn't really find anything specific.


I'm really looking for 4.56 or lower, but I'm not sure if any Isuzus came stock with anything lower. Maybe 4.88? The lower the better.

The early LUV's came with 4.56 gears in the rear, not sure what will would fit the front.

81-87 pups have 4.11s only in the 4x4s
all 84-86 troopers have 4.55s

bolth of these gear sets are the older 10 rear 8 frunt.
there the only gears isuzu put in the 4x4s 79 to 86 truck or suv LUV or PUP.

4.55s a 4 speed trans and 31s = about around 3,000~rpms @ 60
going to a 5 speed or 4.11s gets about 2,600rpms with the same size tires.
add bolth and 5th gear will be to tall on small hills. though fine if no major load.

going newer than 86, the 12 bolt rear 10 frunt theres more choices like 4.77 in 1989 short two door RS troopers only and one or to in the 5.00 somthing range, but there way rare, and swapping axils and making them fit will be a [size=150]major challenge.[/size
can be done but very hard..................................
