ok so im special and took my old dizzy off before i took note of the wire positions. So the directions that were on the site helped but I had some different color wires. Just want to make sure I got everything straight.

Black wire blue stripe from truck- wire diagram in Haines said positive side coil
Black wire yellow stripe from truck - Same as above
large black wire directions said negative post on battery
Black wires red stripe-- I have two one larger than the other this is were I got confused the direction on site said this was power and manual says that this is negative anyone?

I could not find the green wire that was mentioned in the directions

all of the other wires Im sure that I have right just want to see what you guys thought

This is a 78 truck and a Dizzy I got off Ebay said it was 81 82

Would keep trying tonight but freaking auto zone must have given me wrong cap because it doesnt line up right.

You also need the ignitor (ignition module) they are pretty difficult to get unless you can find one in a junkyard. The later years (cant remember the years exactly) have an internal ignitor(its part of the distributor). Thats probably why all the wires arent conecting. Someone may be able to help you more. Im not much help.

I have the ignitor already but jsut trying to figure out the wires the directions on the web sight say that the black and red is the power but the manual says that it is negative and I read another post where a guy said he just let the red/blk hang and it worked. Im not doubting anyone Just gets a litle confusing. I dont have the right cap because of autozone so I cant test anything yet...

On the one I get, I noticed the coil is upside down as compared to the original coil. What I mean is the - and + terminals are on oposite sides. They kind of have to be this way beacause of the short wires from the igniter, and how it hooks to the coil.
I have to go back to work right now, but I will look later at where the wires go.

On mine the black w/ green stripe goes to the +, Blk w/ red stripe goes to -, blk. w/ yellow stripe goes to the wire from the igniter with a green connector. I have a wire from the igniter w/ a white connector on it I left loose, and the long wire from the igniter body to ground. Hope this helps

Still not working. This is what I have
From ignitor on new coil
- Red/White Goes to dist with plug
- Faded Red wire with green connector (which I cut off to hook up to something)
- Black (assuming neg)
- On top of the ignitor is a Black wire that goes to Neg on Batt.
From Truck
-Black with yellow
-Black with Light Blue or black with Green like the Haynes manual says
-Two Red and blacks - one near battery other conneted to solenoid
-Another black??
Some one please....
I have received directions in two different ways to hook these up and I can't get em right
My buddy,Bud Light and I have tried all combos and still no spark....
Any ideas?!

have you checked the wires carefully? I had the same problem on my Austin Mini in Germany come to find out one of the wires that went into the dizy was broke inside the coating just as it goes into the disy

Still nothing ugh

Starting to wonder if part is bad. Truck just keeps turning over like no spark. How can I check if im getting power to the coil/ignitor?

Is the black with yellow the power cable? Or is it the black with light blue/green?

I have tried all sorts of combos with the wires.

I looked inside the ignitor to check wires.

Just want to know if anyone has any more Ideas.

There are two wires that no one else mentions that I have from the small wire harness up near battery there is another small black and red not the one that was hooked to side of old dizzy though. There is also a solid black the manual shows this going to positive.

So to recap black and red go to negative side of coil
Small Black wire from ignitor to neg coil

Black and yellow to Positive or wire from ignitor
Black and blue to Positive side
faded red wire that has extra wire to Positive

Just getting frustrated

Im trying the same thing on a 78 (series 8 ).

Any one know if the guide at http://www.luvtruck.com/pdf/LUVignitswap.pdf will work for a series 8?

I'm having problems where it says
Quote:
Finally take that yellow wire and get it hooked up to the power lead / ignition wire (this is the small black wire that has a red strip that was bolted to the side of the olddistributor).

On my truck it the black and red wire goes from the distributor to the negative side of the coil. And the ignition wire is black and yellow .

Does the series 10 have a single black and red wire that is the ignition wire AND the power lead?
