NEW STEPSIDE FENDERS?

Does anyone know of a supplier for new stepside fiberglass fenders? Mine are all cracked and broken, plus I would like to have a wider flare on them to accomodate my larger, wider tires. I know California Stepside made the originals back in the 70s, but I haven't been able to find anyone making them now, do you?? Any help appreciated!

Thanks for the answer, I have searched every website I can find, rodders, street machines, old car makers, etc. and you are right, I come up with "none made."
I did find one boat repair shop that said he could make them for $350 apiece but that is to rich for my pocketbook!
I have seen several of your products so I would like to be first in line to buy some when you start making them!!!
You sure have a beautful truck too, love that paint work!

Thanks for the comments, I am looking for ANY good fenders, used or new in case anyone has some?
Guess you are having pretty rough winter up your way in MI?
We think it is cold because it is down to about 60 outside right now!!

Thanks again,

sounds good, your 1rst in line... the $350 each is cheap considering it will run me about $500 each to make the molds... final price for fenders will be determined once i weight all the material out that i will use for each peace, i an thinking about $220 to $250 each... want to build a metal break so i can make the beds also... with luck ill be making new step side beds for the luv also… thanks for the comments on the truck… not bad for a driveway build

Thanks for the information. Isn't it funny how much difference a $100 can make? I think $500 for two new fenders is very fair, especially considering what other special made products are going for! A couple of years ago I could have bought a fiberglass hood with a small hood scoop for around $200, now they cost in the $350 range! There is a company in Victorville, CA that makes several styles of hoods for early Luvs, different size hood scoops, bolt ons, pins ons, and all in the above price range.
Anyway please let me know when you have the new fenders available? And I'll bet you will have lots of buyers for a full stepside kit!

The website for fiberglass hoods for Luvs, and many other cars is : up22.com The name of the company is Unlimited Products, they are located in Hesperia, CA, this is a suburb of Victorville, CA. Their website lists their 800 phone number and has dozens of pictures of their products. Definetly worth looking into!!

I purchased the L88 cowl induction hood from them and the metal inserts for connecting the hood hinges are off by about two inches making it impossible to bolt the hood on. I call them at least twice a week, have faxed them the problem and cannot get any further than the receptionist. Looks like I have a $400.00 hood that I am going to have to modify to a pin type hood. Would not recommend them.

That has been a recurring theme with their items, not just LUV stuff either, too bad that for bolt ons they are the only game in town...

I'll try to answer the questions, Yes I live in Riverside, CA, just over the hill from Ben, in San Bernardino. How about you?

2. In regards to the wrong bolt setup for the L88 hood, I'll buy it from you for whatever you have in it, if you do find you cannot use it and I can afford the shipping costs! This is because I can modify the hood hinge fasteners in any direction! If you will send me your e-mail address I can forward you some pictures of my latest LUV V8 swap and you can see the "custom" brackets I make to allow people to utilize their stock hood hinges when they install a much wider radiator. Sometimes, like when you use my much recommended 67-70 Mustang radiators, you have to remove the stock hood hinge mounting area. So I take some flat 2" steel and bend it to fit around in front of the radiator and fasten on both sides of the radiator itself. The top mounting bolts for the grille as well as the hood hinges fasten to this bracket...It is a lot easier to see it in the pictures I have.
I only wish I could figure our how to show them on here! I also have a lot of pictures of motor mounts, radiator mounts on 70s and on 81-82 Luvs and many other items, but can't seem to be able to place them here! I am not only not computer literate, I am obviously as "dumb as dirt" when it come to using them.
Anyway let me know about the hood, I wondered why I could never get anyone to talk to when I called them! Their receptionist sure couldn't answer any of my questions!!!

see ya, dusty aka scjconv/TruLuv

Hello rondog,

Are you the Luv owner who has the mis-fitting hood that also lives in Whitier? I thought the one with that hood lived up in MI.

Anyway I think it would be nice to get all of the Luv owners from So Ca together one of these weekends, don't you. My wife and I belong to a couple of Mustang clubs and we have monthly meetings and get togethers so why not us? Maybe even get Ben to join us?

I tried to go to your pictures of your rides, I got a request for "photobucket', went to that site, it said I had to request Adobe Flash installed, I clicked the button, it said Adobe Flash Installed and yet I still cannot find your pictures!! Any suggestions? Talk about frustration!!!! I don't know what URL, or FXB, or any of the other computor assignations mean, but my only choice is to either give up using my computor alltogether, which I don't wish to do because I really enjoy reading about all of the other Luv owners accomplishments or just muddle through what little I do know!
Thanks for the information anyway!!

The Stepside fender were splashed from the stock chevy truck. You might look at some yards and find some good steel ones. There was a place in Anaheim that made the beds for the company that sold them out of the south. I think their name was All Bann. They splashed the ford round style fenders. I'll have to see if that company is still there as that was 25+years ago. When I owned the company that made all the V8 conversion kits for the mini trucks. I have a Cal Step Side bed with fenders, although the crossmembers were installed for a PL620 Datsun. The bed has surface rust and the fenders are still sound. I would sell it as a unit. The fenders on my luv are half ton chevy stepside fenders. they can be bought brand new from LMC Truck Parts. They are just a little wider than the cali fenders. You'll need to goto LMCTRuck.com and order a free catalog for the mid 70's short bed stepside. check it out.
